Description    

      Albon is a sulfonamide antibacterial used in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

        Sulfadimethoxine (sulfa-die'-meth-ox'-een)

What is this Medication used for?

        Sulfadimethoxine is a sulfonamide antibacterial used in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria and coccidia.

What are the side effects?

      Side effects when using Albon may include KCS (dry eyes), fever, joint inflammation, diarrhea, kidney damage and allergic reaction characterized by facial swelling and hives.

What special Precautions are there?

       Do not use Albon in animals allergic to it or other sulfonamides (sulfa drugs).  Do not use in pregnant or nursing animals.  Do not use in animals with kidney or liver disease.  Use with caution when given with methotrexate, warfarin, phenylbutazone, salicylates, probenecid, phenytoin and MAOIs such as selegiline.  Do not give antacids within 2 hours of this medication.   Allow pet to drink plenty of water.  If using the suspension, shake well before each use.  Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking.

In the event of an overdose.

        Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.  Symptoms of overdose while rare may include vomiting, diarrhea or hyper excitability.

How should I store this medication?

        Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed.  Store at room temperature, away from excess heat, light and moisture.  Do not store in the bathroom.  Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.  Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
